World Hemophelia Day 2025

On April 17, 2025, the global bleeding disorders community will come together to celbrate World Hemophelia Day. This year’s theme is “Access for all: Women and girls bleed too.”

Today, women and girls with bleeding disorders (WGBDs) are still underdiagnosed and underserved. The global bleeding disorders community has the power—and the responsibility—to change this. Through recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and care, the quality of life of women and girls will improve, and the bleeding disorders community will become stronger.

Self-infusion takes great courage; most people with hemophilia do it three times a week for the rest of their lives

Among inherited blood disorders, hemophilia is often diagnosed early in childhood. Its debilitating symptoms afflict approximately 1,125,000 worldwide* and takes tremendous effort to treat effectively:

● Treatment includes frequent infusions

● Patients as young as eight must learn to treat themselves

● Requires scrupulous patient dose compliance

For young patients it takes real courage to stick themselves with a needle, let alone the responsibility of doing it as many as three times a week. It’s a badge of courage they wear on the inside for the rest of their lives. Terumo Pharmaceutical Solutions felt they should have one to wear on the outside – something to let the world know how brave they really are.

In support of the World Hemophilia Day, Terumo is proud to support the #WHD2025 mission of Women & Girls Bleed too, Prevention of Bleeds and increase awareness around inherited blood disorders.

Terumo supports hemophilia patients with a ‘Badge of Courage’ in recognition of their conspicuous courage in the face of infusion pain.

Badge of Courage Terumo’s Self Infusion Training Initiative

“Thousands of needles, thousands of moments”

That’s how one patient describes his lifetime commitment to treatment. It’s poignant testimony as to what these patients face and offers a glimpse of the courage it takes living with hemophilia.
